The Marriage of Tarot and Bodywork Treatment
Although tarot has been traditionally associated with fortune-telling, I use it in my Tarot-Therapy sessions as a tool to navigate and facilitate the client's self-observation and to map out the “here and now” of the client, just as I use verbal cues and music in my guided meditation or sound-relaxation sessions to encourage and facilitate the participants’ introspection.
In a Tarot-Therapy session, we interpret the artistic representations of the archetypes and life-situations illustrated on each of the cards. The tarot works as a medium through which our subconscious and intuitions surface themselves in a more tangible way to the level of the conscious mind. By “reading” and connecting with certain elements in the cards, we can begin to explore and understand our deeper selves - our hopes and fears, even the ones we tend to suppress during our conscious, waking hours. Here is the outline of a typical Tarot-Therapy session:
1) We will begin with a short guided sitting to center ourselves.
2) The client selects some cards so that we can begin the tarot reading. This reading can take up to 30-40 minutes and I will help the client to interpret important elements in the cards.
3) Based on the cards selected I create a personalized program consisting of the yoga posture sequences, meditation, breathing exercises, massage, and/or other bodywork techniques to help the client's current state. (Insurance receipts will be provided for the massage portion.)
4) We will end the session with a short sitting once again (or a guided relaxation, whichever that is suitable for the program) to integrate everything.
Upon request and at an additional fee of $50 (tax included), within a week after a session the client will receive a written report of the reading and the individualized program done in the session for personal use at home.
